ODI World Cup 2023: The Aussies will look to clinch their sixth ODI crown in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 in India. Australia toured South Africa for a limited-overs series.

They faced the Proteas side in a five-match one-day international series and their tour started with the three-match series in the shortest format which they won by a margin of three nil.

But the five-time ODI World Cup winners, Australia had suffered a loss before this ICC mega event of the fifty overs format starts next month.

Australia lost the five-match one-day international format series by a margin of 3-2.

South Africa made a strong comeback even after they lost the T20 International series and the first two games of this fifty-overs series.

Change was not expected from South Africa especially after they lost the series of the shortest format and they also started the one-day international series with a loss in the first two games.

Australia had missed several star players on this tour to South Africa. Mitchell Marsh was the skipper of the Baggy Greenside on this tour to Proteas.

Marsh did well to whitewash the hosts, South Africa in the T20I series. But he failed to win the ODI series as the captain of Australia.

Now one more bad news has come for the Aussie fans ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. The reports say that Australia will be without their star opening batter, Travis Head for at least for the first half of this tournament of the fifty overs format.

Travis Head is the first choice and preferred opening batter of the Aussie team. He did well in the three-match one-day international series which Australia played after the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series against India.

His absence for the majority of time during the ODI World Cup 2023 will be a huge blow for Australia.

Head has sustained an injury on his left hand during the fourth match of the one-day international series against South Africa which the Aussies had lost.

Even the coach of Australia, Andrew McDonald has confirmed that Travis Head will miss the first half of the ODI World Cup 2023 because his broken left hand will need surgery.
