Paris Paralympics 2024: India has secured its 8th medal at the Paris Paralympics. Yogesh Kathuniya won the silver medal in discus throw, specifically in the Men's Discus Throw F56 event.
His first throw reached 42.22 meters, followed by distances of 41.50 meters, 41.55 meters, 40.33 meters, and 40.89 meters in his subsequent throws.
With this achievement, India now holds the 30th position in the medal tally, having won 1 gold medal, 3 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals so far.
Yogesh Kathuniya made history by winning a silver medal for the second consecutive Paralympics on the fifth day of the Paris Paralympic Games.
Yogesh had previously secured a silver medal at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020. With this achievement, he has reached a significant milestone by winning silver in two consecutive Paralympic Games.
India's medal count now stands at 8. Earlier, Indian shooter Avani Lekhara won a gold medal in the R2 Women’s 10m Air Rifle (SH1) event, followed by Mona Agarwal, who secured the bronze in the same event.
After Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal, Preeti Pal secured India's third medal by winning in the Women's 100m Race (T35). Manish Narwal brought in the fourth medal for India, winning silver in the 10m Air Pistol (SH1) event.
Rubina Francis claimed the fifth medal, Preeti Pal won the sixth, Nishad Kumar earned the seventh, and Yogesh Kathuniya secured the eighth medal.
