Team India's off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Saturday was included in Surrey squad for the County Championship match against Somerset, starting from July 11 at the Oval. Ashwin is currently in England for the five-match Test series between India and England begins on August 4. He will join the team for this match only.
An official statement from the Surrey team said, "Sean Abbott was originally expected to be Surrey's second overseas player in this fixture, alongside Hashim Amla, but a hamstring injury sustained during the County Championship meeting with Gloucestershire ended his time at The Kia Oval early."
Let us tell you New Zealand's Kyle Jamieson replaced Abbott. Later, Jamieson suffered a glute injury on the first day of Surrey's match against Hampshire last week and will not play any further part on the field. Realizing the extent of Jamieson's injury, Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart began the process of bringing Ashwin into the squad for this fixture, as the team looks to win the last two group mat.
Ashwin had been in England after India's World Test Championship final last month. He will join India's Test team after this match ahead of their Test series with England. He will also get the benefit of this match because the fourth match between India and England will be played on this ground.
Rory Burns (Captain), Hashim Amla, R Ashwin, Jordan Clark, Rikki Clarke. Ben Geddes, Conor McKerr, Daniel Moriarty, Jamie Overton, Ryan Patel, Jamie Smith, Mark Stoneman, Amar Virdi.
