"Dhoni has been playing for such a long time, I feel he understands when he should retire. This should be his decision. He has taken important decisions so far for India in his vocation and I'm certain he will decide when the opportunity arrives," Dhawan said on India TV's show 'Aap Ki Adalat'.

"That is the quality of a big leader. He knows the capability of each player and knows to what degree a player ought to be upheld. He realizes how to make a victor out of a player. India's prosperity during his captaincy legitimizes this. His (Dhoni's) control is his greatest quality," Dhawan included.

Dhawan likewise said that the individuals from the present Indian group, including captain Virat Kohli, conveys massive regard for the previous India captain.

"Dhoni bhai has been quite successful as the captain of the side. We are all very grateful to him and we respect him a lot, and the same goes for Virat,"  he said.

Talking on the relationship among Kohli and Dhoni, Dhawan said the team shares a solid bond.
