WTC 2023 Final: The Aussies clinched their ninth ICC Title by winning the WTC 2023 final against India. Australia won the Ultimate Test Match by 209 runs at Kennington Oval in London

In this match, Team India struggled to put up a good show. The Aussies were always well ahead of India in that game.

Today we will discuss the four reasons why India lost the finals of the World Test Championship in 2023.

Team India struggled to put up a good show in this match. Whereas, the Aussies were always in the game.

1. No Attacking Approach

The main reason for the loss at the World Test Championship final in 2023 was India couldn’t attack the opposition.

After the men in blue side won the toss and opted to bowl first, India started the innings well. The Indian bowlers picked up 2 wickets in the first session and one wicket in the post-lunch session.

However, they allowed Australia to get away with the game. Travis Head and Steve Smith were unbeaten on the first day as they piled up 327 runs, which was too much.

The four pace bowlers of India should have attacked when Head and Smith were new to the batting crease. The pacers relied too much on the wicket.

They should have used the short balls and bowled with good lengths to put those two batters on the backfoot.

2. Overseas Batting Issues

India’s batting in overseas conditions has been a huge problem over the years. India’s only loss in the WTC 2021 to 2023 cycle came in South Africa in those away conditions.

The team has done well at home in those spin-friendly pitches. But when the wicket starts to offer more pace, swing and bounce, the batters of team India start to struggle and they find no answers on how to deal with that.

3. Indian Players Were Already Exhausted

All the Indian players went to play the WTC 2023 Final straight from the Indian Premier League 2023 season, which was a two month tournament.

While most of the Australia players had a complete rest of two months and they also addressed their fitness issues during these two months period.

Many key players from the Indian team were injured during this season of TATA IPL 2023 and that is also the reason why India couldn’t compete well in this one-off test match.

4. India Had A Sluggish Mindset Throughout This Game

With the ball in hand, Team India had no plan B, especially when the Australian batters were dominating this game. There was a sluggish approach and mindset throughout this match which hurt India in the end.

The openers started the innings quite positively both times. But apart from Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur none of the other Indian batters could score more runs.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who had spent so much time in England for his county stint, failed to raise his worth when the team needed it the most.

Now there are some experts and fans who want Pujara to be removed from the test team.
