Floods in Assam: About 57,000 People Affected in 7 Districts, Many Trains Cancelled

Floods in Assam: Before the monsoon, floods in Assam have made people in bad condition. The floods have affected 57,000 people in seven districts of the state.

According to official figures, about 222 villages falling in 25 revenue circles are in the grip of floods while 10321.44 hectares of agricultural land has been submerged in the flood.

Three people including a child have lost their lives due to the floods. So far 202 houses have been damaged in this disaster. There is a rain alert in the state till May 18.

Relief operations in flood affected areas

The army, paramilitary forces, SDRF, fire brigade and emergency services have carried out relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas. Roads, bridges and canals have been submerged in Hojai, Lakhimpur and Nagaon districts.

Due to incessant rains on Saturday, landslides occurred in 12 villages of the Dima Hasao district. The landslide has caused waterlogging at many places and damage to railway tracks. Communication services have also been affected in the hilly areas.

Floods in Assam: Train services also affected

Water has hit many places in the Lumding division. In view of this, the Northeast Frontier Railway has made many changes in the operation of trains. Two trains on this route got stuck due to floods and rains.

About 1400 passengers are on board in these trains. These passengers were evacuated with the help of Air Force, NDRF, Assam Rifles and local people.

Floods in Assam: 119 passengers were airlifted to Silchar

Around 1,245 passengers stranded at Ditokcherra station have been brought to Badarpur and Silchar while 119 passengers were airlifted to Silchar.

Railways arranged food and water for these stranded passengers. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain in the state till May 18.
