Delhi: Threat to Blow Up Tihar Jail, Administration Informs Delhi Police

Since Independence

After receiving bomb threats targeting schools, hospitals and Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi's Tihar Jail has now received a bomb threat email. Tihar administration has informed Delhi Police about the situation.

Officials said that Delhi's Tihar Jail received an email on Tuesday in which it was threatened with a bomb. Earlier, similar threats were also sent to schools, hospitals and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in the city.

Searches are being conducted inside the jail complex, where some high-profile prisoners, including prominent politicians, are housed. Earlier today, bomb threats were also sent to four hospitals in Delhi via email.

These Hospitals Also Received Bomb Threats

Officials stated that they have received bomb threat emails targeting GTB Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital, Hedgewar Hospital and Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital. Nothing suspicious has been found yet. Bomb disposal squads, bomb detection teams, fire department personnel and local police have been deployed to search these hospitals.

V.K. Sharma, security officer of Hedgewar Hospital, said, "Police and bomb disposal squad are investigating. We have also searched twice. Nothing suspicious has been found so far."

Fourth Threat in One Month

This is the fourth incident in the last month when threats of this nature have been received at various places including schools, hospitals and airports.

On May 12 (Sunday), about 20 hospitals in the city received similar threats. On the same day, an email threatening a bomb attack was also received at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. However, all these threats turned out to be rumours.

On May 1, around 100 schools in Delhi, two in Noida and one in Lucknow were also threatened with bombs, which once again turned out to be a hoax. These threats were sent using a Russian email service.

Schools in Jaipur, Rajasthan have also been targeted with such threats. At least 37 schools in Jaipur received threat emails, leading to evacuation of students and subsequent police investigation with bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs, yet no suspicious objects were found.
