Water Crisis in Delhi: The increasing water crisis in Delhi has shaken the system. The intense heatwave and rising temperatures have surged the demand for water.
The situation has deteriorated to the point where even tankers are unable to provide sufficient water supply, causing significant difficulties for residents.
Some people, frustrated by the water shortage, have even moved back to their villages. In East Patel Nagar, Nehru Vihar, Gayatri Colony, and Punjabi Basti, which fall under the Patel Nagar constituency, there is a severe water shortage.
These areas need 60-65 tankers to meet the water supply demands, but only 44 tankers are currently available.
According to the Jal Board, there are certain unauthorized colonies and some village areas where water supply pipelines have not been laid. For example, in Burari constituency, areas facing water supply issues or lacking pipelines are serviced by a total of 31 tankers.
The highest number of tankers has been deployed in the Bawana constituency due to its numerous rural areas where water supply lines have yet to be installed.
Across 70 constituencies, the Jal Board is supplying water using 176 of its own tankers and 721 hired water tankers.
In Central Delhi's Patel Nagar constituency, many colonies still lack water supply pipelines. Areas such as Punjabi Basti, Rajasthani Colony, Gayatri Colony, and Nehru Vihar rely on tankers for daily water supply.
However, only 44 tankers are available for water supply, which falls short of the actual demand.
Lutyens' Delhi is also experiencing a water crisis, affecting areas such as Bengali Market, Ashok Road, Harish Chandra Mathur Lane, Copernicus Marg, Purana Qila Road, Babar Road, Barakhamba, KG Marg, Windsor Place, Ferozeshah Road, and Canning Lane.
