J&K: Three Arrested in Poonch for Arms and Drugs Smuggling Attempt Along LoC

On Wednesday, a significant endeavour to smuggle weapons and drugs was thwarted by the Army. Three individuals were apprehended following an exchange of gunfire near the border fence along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, as per officials.

In the early hours of the day, at forward Karmara village in the Gulpur sector, an Army soldier and one of the arrested suspects sustained injuries during the firing, according to reports.

According to reports, the troops stationed at the border detected suspicious movements and confronted the individuals, resulting in a gunfight.

Following the incident, the entire area was swiftly cordoned off, leading to the arrest of three individuals, one of whom was injured.

The arrests were made in conjunction with the seizure of a consignment of narcotics and weapons.

Additionally, an Army soldier sustained injuries during the operation, according to the officials.

The officials provided the identities of the arrested individuals as Mohd Farooq (26), who sustained a bullet injury to his leg, along with Mohd Riaz (23) and Mohd Zubair (22). All three individuals are residents of Karmara.

AK Assault Rifle, Grenades, and Heroin Confiscated

It is believed that the arrested individuals received the arms and narcotics consignment from across the border and were attempting to smuggle it into this side. However, their efforts were foiled when they were intercepted by the troops.

The seized items from the arrested individuals comprised of an AK assault rifle, two pistols, six grenades, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) concealed within a pressure cooker, and 20 packets suspected to contain heroin.
