Cauvery Water Dispute: A 2-day bandh has been planned due to the Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. However, due to the dispute between the two protesting groups in Bengaluru, a bandh has been called on Tuesday 26th and Friday 29th September.

The Cauvery water sharing dispute has been a major issue between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for quite some time. Its roots can be traced to two agreements signed between the Madras Presidency and the Kingdom of Mysore in the years 1892 and 1924.

The Center set up the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWC) in June 1990 to resolve disagreements over water dispute sharing capacity between Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry.

The Supreme Court had ruled in 2018 on how much water should be retained by Karnataka and how much should be given to Tamil Nadu. As per that decision, Karnataka will have to allocate 177.25 TMC to Tamil Nadu in a 'normal' water year between June and May. Watch the video for more information.....
