On the previous Thursday (August 31), the India Alliance held its maiden meeting in Mumbai. When a menacing phone call arrived at Mumbai's Police Control Center, eminent individuals were assembling for the event.
The caller stated that he intended to detonate a bomb at the city's famed Taj Hotel.
At the time, a large section of Mumbai's police force was occupied with protecting the dignitaries. The unexpected call created a tense mood at the police department.
An officer stated that the caller claimed that two Pakistanis were on their way to India via boat, with diabolical plans to strike the iconic Taj Hotel.
Following this occurrence, the Mumbai Crime Branch initiated an investigation and traced the call's origin to a registered number in the Uttar Pradesh district of Gonda.
Subsequent investigations narrowed the caller's location to the Santa Cruz neighbourhood of Mumbai.
Acting quickly, Senior Police Inspector Daya Nayak and his Unit 9 team from the Crime Branch apprehended the suspect, Jagdamba Prasad Singh, 36.
The accused was arrested and charged under Section 505(1)(B) of the IPC. Authorities are looking into the reason for the upsetting call.
Notably, the Taj Hotel in Mumbai's Colaba neighbourhood was a major target during the city's tragic 2008 terrorist attacks. Previously, the hotel faced similar threats.
Ten terrorists affiliated with Pakistan's Lashkar-e-Taiba reached Mumbai via waterways on November 26, 2008, committing synchronized attacks on numerous public locations.
The Taj Palace, Oberoi Trident, CSMT Railway Station, Cama Hospital, Nariman House Jewish Community Centre, Metro Cinema, Times of India Building, and St. Xavier's College were among the targets.
Following the attacks, an anti-terror operation lasted from November 26 to November 29. Tragically, this Pakistan-sponsored act of terrorism killed 166 innocent people and injured almost 300 more.
While nine of the attackers were killed, Ajmal Aamir Kasab was apprehended alive.
Kasab endured a four-year trial that resulted in his death sentence for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
He was executed by hanging on November 21, 2012, at Pune's Yerwada Jail.
