In Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi has been announced as the Chief Minister designate. The 52-year-old BJP legislator has been chosen as the leader of the party by its legislators.

Majhi will lead the state's first BJP government. He has been elected as a legislator from Kandhamal constituency four times consecutively.

In the recent assembly elections, the BJP achieved a historic victory, securing a majority after 24 years, displacing the BJD from power. BJP won 78 out of 147 seats in the state assembly.

Naveen Patnaik had been the Chief Minister of the state continuously from 2000 to 2024, holding the position for 24 years and 98 days. Now, Majhi will take charge of the state.

During the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2024, Mohan Charan Majhi disclosed his entire asset details to the Election Commission through an affidavit filed on MyNeta.info.

The new CM of Odisha holds a graduate degree and declared his total movable and immovable assets to be approximately ₹1.97 crore.

Additionally, he revealed liabilities amounting to ₹95.58 lakh. There are deposits totalling ₹10.92 lakh in separate bank accounts held jointly with his spouse across nine different banks. His wife also holds a Fixed Deposit (FD) in SBI in her name worth ₹51 lakh.

Bomb Attack on Mohan Charan Majhi's Car in 2021

Mohan Charan Majhi, who served as the chief spokesman for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, narrowly escaped a bomb attack on his car in 2021 in the Kendujhar district.

The incident occurred in the Mandya area under the Kenojhar Kasba police station when he was returning home after attending a meeting of the BJP lawmakers' labour union.

Majhi had lodged an FIR alleging that motorcycle-borne miscreants threw two homemade bombs.

At that time, he also accused local leaders of the ruling party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD), of orchestrating the attack.
