Man Dies in Alleged Lynching, Attempted to Desecrate Guru Granth Sahib in Golden Temple

In Amritsar, a youth was beaten up so much that he died in the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple. According to the information received, a young man died while trying to defile the Guru Granth Sahib during Rehras Sahib recitation on Saturday evening.

Second incident in the last four days

In the last four days, this is the second incident. Earlier, a youth had allegedly tried to throw a booklet of holy Gurbani in the lake of Golden Temple, following which he was arrested. According to the information received, during the recitation of Rehras Sahib on Saturday evening, a youth was trying to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple and disrupt religious services. After which the angry Sangat and the servants allegedly caught hold of him and beat him so much that he died.

It is alleged that the deceased youth had tried to touch the Guru Granth Sahib. Simultaneously, the 'Kripan' kept in front of the holy Sikh scripture was lifted. It is being told that the deceased broke the security cordon. As soon as the security forces caught sight of this, he was caught. The person who died has not been identified yet.

Deceased man was badly beaten up

According to the sources, deceased man was waiting for 'darshan' with the Sangat, but suddenly he climbed on the security railing and tried to lift the kirpan placed in front of Sarup. Another eyewitness said that he also tried to collect flower petals kept nearby. After which the servants caught him. He was taken to the SGPC office, where he was badly beaten up. Pictures emerging from the scene showed a young man lying unconscious on the floor. A senior police officer, who did not wish to be named, confirmed that the youth had been beaten to death. His body was not handed over to the police but was lying inside.

No documents or identification cards had been discovered

The police officer further stated that no documents or identification cards belonging to the youth had been discovered. The police is still in the investigation of the matter. Meanwhile, activists of several religious organizations have gathered outside the Golden Temple to protest the incident.
