Caste-Based Census in Rajasthan: In recent developments, the Bihar government has released the data from a caste-based census, igniting political debates and discussions.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan's Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, has announced that a similar caste-based census will be conducted in Rajasthan, following Bihar's footsteps.

Gehlot emphasized that participation and resource allocation in Rajasthan would be determined based on the census data.

The Bihar government's census data reveals significant demographic insights. According to the report, Bihar's population consists of 36% Extremely Backward Classes, 27% Backward Classes, just over 19% Scheduled Castes, and 1.68% Scheduled Tribes.

Bihar's total population exceeds 130 million, with Other Backward Classes (OBC) making up 63% of the population. The Scheduled Caste population is 19%, the Scheduled Tribe population is 1.68%, while the General Category comprises 15.52%.

Notably, the government of Bihar had been advocating for a caste-based census for almost three years.

While the government had got the proposal for caste census passed by the Assembly and Legislative Council on 18 February 2019 and again on 27 February 2020.

But the caste census work started in January this year. However, the government calls it a 'survey' and not a census.
