According to SP Adarsh Sidhu, the incident took place on Wednesday when the victim had gone to graze goats in the fields.

Around midday, two of the accused, Kanha and Kalu, raped the girl, after which they assaulted her, rendering her unconscious.

Believing her to be dead, they put her in a coal furnace and set it on fire. When they checked later that night, they discovered that her entire body hadn't burnt.

Her head and chest remained. They put these parts in a bag and discarded them in a pond 100-200 meters away from the crime scene.

What is disturbing in this shocking incident is that the wives and relatives of the accused are also involved, who participated in concealing the evidence of the crime.

The Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at Kotra police station has been suspended on grounds of suspected negligence. Officials revealed that he failed to respond promptly when the family of the missing girl approached the police station on Wednesday to report the incident.

The police are continuing efforts to nab the other accused as well. The police are planning to file a charge sheet in the Fast Track Court under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, based on the findings of the forensic investigation and other scientific tests.
