Rajasthan Election 2023: In the electoral battleground of Rajasthan, BJP Member of Parliament, Diya Kumari, filed her nomination on Wednesday from the Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency in Jaipur.
Diya Kumari, who was elected as an MLA from Sawai Madhopur in 2013 and is currently an MP from Rajsamand, has once again secured a ticket as an MLA in the shift from MPs to MLAs in this election cycle.
She has also disclosed her assets in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, which shows an increase in her wealth by 2.60 crore rupees.
According to Diya Kumari's affidavit, she has invested over 14 crore 85 lakh rupees in 28 companies and mutual funds. She has also invested nearly 2.5 crore rupees in Fixed Deposit Receipts (FDRs).
Furthermore, she has over 1 crore 48 lakhs deposited in saving accounts in 8 different banks, and over 92 lakhs in her current account.
Diya Kumari's total assets in her affidavit amount to more than 19 crore 19 lakh 87 thousand rupees, as opposed to her 2013 assets, which were valued at 9 crore 64 lakhs.
In addition to her political career, Diya Kumari is also known for her annual income tax returns, consistently exceeding 2 crore rupees. In the past five years, she has filed returns as follows:
2018-19: 2 crore 39 lakhs
2019-20: 3 crore 27 lakhs
2020-21: 1 crore 54 lakhs
2021-22: 3 crore 73 lakhs
2022-23: 2 crore 88 lakhs
Born on January 30, 1971, Diya Kumari is the only daughter of Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh and Padmini Devi of the former royal family of Jaipur.
She received her education from Modern School in New Delhi, G.D. Somani Memorial School in Mumbai, and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls' Public School in Jaipur. She also pursued a course in Decorative Arts in London.
Diya Kumari's political journey has been remarkable. She joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2013 and was elected as an MLA from Sawai Madhopur in the same year.
In 2019, she contested and won the Lok Sabha elections from Rajsamand. Currently, Diya Kumari serves as the state in-charge of the BJP's Women's Wing in Rajasthan.
Apart from politics, she also runs her own NGO and has interests in school and hotel businesses.
Notably, the BJP has nominated Diya Kumari from the Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency in Jaipur, often referred to as the stronghold of the BJP.
She was given a ticket after the party decided not to field Narpat Singh Rajvi, the son-in-law of former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who represented the seat in the past.
The people of Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency believe that Diya Kumari is a strong candidate and may be considered as a future Chief Minister of the state. They see her as a viable alternative to Vasundhara Raje in the future.
