In the provocative speech case in Haridwar Dharma Sansad, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Central Government and the Uttarakhand Government. Aside from that, the Supreme Court stated that it will consider the issue in 10 days because there are other outstanding cases. During this time, the petitioner's counsel, Kapil Sibal, requested a delay on the Dharma Sansad, which is scheduled to take place in Aligarh on January 23. The court instructed him to submit a memorandum to the state administration in this regard. The petitioners were permitted to submit objections to the local government against organising the Parliament of Religions in the future by a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Hima Kohli.

32 retired officers wrote open letter

A day after numerous notable persons, including former army commanders, sought action in connection with aggressive comments against a certain class in Haridwar, 32 former Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers penned an open letter.

''Religion, caste, geography, or ideological background should not be taken into account when condemning any act of violence'', according to the 32 former IFS commanders. He said that there is a constant campaign of condemnation directed against the administration, but that such condemnation should be directed at everyone, not just a chosen few.

Why was the Haridwar Dharma Sansad a source of contention?

Following the release of a video of a controversial speech given at the Parliament of Religions in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, there has been a stir. A speaker in this religious parliament made a provocative statement in which he stated that Hindus must take up guns to safeguard their religion. Adding to which, he also stated that a Muslim should never be elected Prime Minister of the country and made provocative remarks saying that the growth of the Muslim population must be halted.
