ED Raids West Bengal Minister Chandranath Sinha's Residence in Teacher Recruitment Scam, Seizes ₹40 Lakh Cash

Since Independence

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted a raid at the residence of West Bengal Cabinet Minister Chandranath Sinha, seizing ₹40 lakh in cash.

According to ED sources, the source of the cash could not be identified. To gather evidence, the ED has also confiscated his mobile phone. It's worth mentioning that on Friday, the ED conducted raids at several locations, including Minister Chandranath Sinha's residence in Birbhum's Bolpur, in connection with the teacher recruitment scam.

The marathon raid and interrogation lasted for nearly 13 hours, concluding around 10:30 pm. The ED team arrived at Chandranath Sinha's residence around 9 am on Friday morning.

As per ED sources, the Enforcement Directorate had seized a register from TMC Youth Wing leader Kuntal Ghosh. From that register, they found the name of Chandranath Sinha.

Kuntal Ghosh was previously arrested by the ED in connection with the teacher recruitment scam.

Kolkata Businessman Prasanna Roy Was Also Arrested

On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned businessman Prasanna Roy to the CGO Complex in Kolkata for questioning.

After a prolonged interrogation lasting 11 hours, he was arrested. Sources claim that he played a crucial role in conversations among candidates involved in the teacher recruitment scam, as well as several leaders including the former education minister.

Prasanna was arrested by the CBI last year, but he was granted bail by the Supreme Court.

What is the Whole Matter?

After the order passed by the Kolkata High Court, both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are investigating the alleged irregularities in the teacher recruitment process.

During the investigation, the name of Prasanna Roy emerged. Subsequently, in December last year, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at the residences and offices of chartered accountants, businessmen, and others in Kolkata in connection with the teacher recruitment scam case.

In the same case, accused former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee and several leaders of the Trinamool Congress are currently in jail.
