Amazon, US online retail giant has made it easier for its users to unsubscribe or cancel their subscriptions to its fast-shipping club Prime with just two clicks, following the complaints from consumer groups, the European Commission stated on Friday.

European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), the Norwegian Consumer Council, and the Transatlantic Consumer Dialogue took their problems to the EU executive in April last year.

They mentioned that users had to go through various obstacles such as complicated navigation menus, confusing choices, and skewed wording, to unsubscribe from Amazon Prime.

Amazon will now let users unsubscribe from their membership through the ‘Cancel Button’

The company will now permit its users to unsubscribe or cancel their membership from Amazon Prime with two clicks via a main and clear 'cancel button', the Commission said.

These changes will apply to all EU desktops and websites, mobiles, and tablets with an instant effect

"Consumers must be able to exercise their rights without any force from platforms. One thing is clear manipulative design or 'dark patterns' must be banned," Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders mentioned in a statement.

"By design, we make it more simple for customers to sign up or unsubscribe from their Prime Membership. We constantly listen to the feedback and look for many ways that help to improve our customer experience, as we are doing here the same by following constructive dialogue with the European Commission", stated Amazon.
