Google is implementing several design changes to Gmail, including the Material You design that was introduced earlier this year. The new email layout includes a sidebar that allows users to move between Google's four services Mail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet.

Users will receive bubble alerts for new Chat and Spaces messages in the meantime. Users are being given the option to return to the original Gmail look. Gmail is also rumored to be considering more modifications to its email and communication platform later this year.

Gmail is currently sending out an improved design to all users

Gmail is currently sending out an improved design to all users, which incorporates the previously mentioned integrated look to the platform. The new design has a sidebar to the left of the Gmail interface, allowing users to swiftly move between Mail, Chat, Spaces, and Meet.

Notification bubbles in Gmail may also alert users to fresh Chat and Spaces communications. The notice will display in Gmail's bottom left corner. The new design also allows users to manually reveal or remove the Gmail side panel of options.

Gmail users may adopt the new look by turning on Chat in Gmail

Meanwhile, according to Google's help website, Gmail users may adopt the new look by turning on Chat in Gmail and moving Chat to the left-hand panel. They may also disable the new view by going to Settings > Quick Settings > Return to the classic Gmail display > New Window > Reload. Even if users do not have Chat enabled, they will see the new appearance by default, but in a Gmail-only view.

According to The Verge, tablet users of Gmail are also anticipated to benefit from more platform enhancements later this year. According to the article, Google also plans to improve emoji support and add additional accessibility features to Gmail, among other improvements.
