Mahindra has decided to stop production of DI variants of Thar. The company says that this step was taken because the cost of upgrading this variant would be more due to the Upcoming Safety Norms. This can be considered as the first phase of closing the production of existing Thar.

Mahindra Thar has been in the market for nearly nine years and very few updates are seen in this SUV. Some basic features were given in it, they were like AC and ABS. Besides, Mahindra Thar remained empty. It offers rugged design and gearbox with a rugged engine.

This SUV comes with a 2.5-liter DI diesel engine and offers 5-speed manual transmission. Mahindra Thar DI was present in the rear-wheel drive along with 4-wheel drive variants. It does not get any special features of Conflict, even in power steering. In this case, it was not acceptable even at the launch and today it is not acceptable even between so many competitions.

Although some buyers liked Thar DI for its basic bare nature and rugged performance, and it was also true that this top is much cheaper than the CRDe variant. However, now it is time to call it Goodbye due to the Upcoming Safety Names Deadline.

According to the forthcoming government rule, all cars must have speed alert system, driver and front passenger seatbelt warning, driver airbag and ABS by July 1, 2019. Top variants already get driver airbags and ABS in CRDe. In such a case, it is very easy to upgrade to the new safety norms. As well as having turbocharged CRDe diesel engine, it generates more power.

However, after all this, the CRDe model will not fit fit according to BS-VI emission norms, which will be effective from April 1, 2020. Therefore, the company is preparing to launch the next Thar before the new terms are implemented. It can be launched during the 2020 auto expo. It has been seen quite a lot during testing.
