No Freedom from Unwanted Calls/Messages For Another 6 Months: TRAI

Since Independence

Almost all mobile phone users in the nation are bothered by invasive marketing calls and messages. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has given Telecom and other businesses extra six months to stop receiving telemarketer's calls and messages. Prior to May 1, TRAI stated that unwanted calls and messages would end.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) allowed time for telecom and other businesses to create DCA (Digital Consent Acquisition) software for this.

The deadline has been extended till November 30th because telecom and other businesses are taking longer time to develop DCA (Digital Consent Acquisition) software.

No business will be able to make commercial calls or send promotional messages after the software is commissioned (DCA, or "Digital Consent Acquisition").

TRAI's Move to Bring Businesses Under Digital Consent Platform

This directive was made by TRAI in accordance with the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations, 2018 (TCCCPR).

Many businesses bother calling customers repeatedly without getting their consent. In such a scenario, TRAI's action will also assist in bringing the remaining businesses under this digital platform.

Commercial and governmental organisations are not permitted to make calls or send messages without their customers' permission, according to TRAI.

Commercial and governmental organisations are not permitted to make calls or send messages without their customers' permission, according to TRAI. But for this, commercial and governmental organisations must first obtain the client's consent.

If TRAI approves, banks, insurance companies, finance institutions, and trading entities are required to complete the process of obtaining customer consent by September 30. On the other hand, the remaining commercial and governmental organizations have been granted an extended deadline until November 30 to fulfill this requirement.

If experts concur, telecom corporations have requested six months to develop DCA (Digital Consent Acquisition) software. Therefore, it is impossible to predict how long it will take to end the calls/messages.

The main cause of this is that non-registered entities make the majority of the calls. Calls to unregistered organisations will only be blocked upon customer complaints.

How can I stop receiving unwanted calls and messages?

By SMS: To start blocking unwanted incoming calls and texts, open the messaging app. Send START 0 to 1909 . After this, spam calls won't be received at your number.

By Calling: You can also call to stop receiving unwanted calls and texts on your phone. From your phone, dial 1909 to stop receiving unwanted calls and messages. Activate the Do Not Disturb (DND) service for your number in accordance with the instructions provided over the phone.
