The name of the Captain's party will be associated with the name of the Congress.  When Mamata Banerjee formed her party in West Bengal, she named it Trinamool Congress. The name of Sharad Pawar's party is also Nationalist Congress Party. Captain Amarinder Singh will also form a new party with a similar name. According to the ongoing discussion in the political corridors, ten Congress MLAs will share the stage with Captain in the formation of the new party. Along with them, the Captain's wife, MP Preneet Kaur, will also accompany the Captain.

This is not the first time that he is forming his new party. Even before this, in the year 1992, he separated himself from the Akali Dal and formed the Shiromani Akali Dal party. In the 1998 elections, he had to face defeat on two seats Patiala and Talwandi Sabo. After this he took the hand of Congress, now after a long time, he is once again forming his own party.
