Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Chennai on Friday on a two-day visit. He will attend the second informal summit to be held in Mallapuram with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Air China plane with Xi Jinping and others landed at two in the afternoon. Special preparations were made to welcome at the airport. She was welcomed with the red carpet by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister K.K. Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam did it.

A large number of artists stood in queues carrying colorful flags at the airport to welcome the Chinese leader. He was playing the drums and was humming the beat of traditional music. Local artists also performed folk dances. The day before, about 2000 students of a school in Chennai had rehearsed in a unique way to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping. The students were wearing Xi Jinping mask and carried Indo-China flags in their hands.

The students also created a formation, which was displaying the Chinese President's name in Mandarin. Xi Jinping has come for a 24-hour visit to India for the second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The summit will take place in the ancient coastal city of Mamallapuram, about 50 km from Tamil Nadu, which is important due to strong trade and cultural ties with China's Fujian province.
