On Friday, former Supreme Court judge Justice AK Sikri stressed the need for reform of the collegium system, emphasizing the need for judicial reform in the country. Justice Sikri is currently an International Judge at the Singapore International Commercial Court. In the inaugural function of Cornell India Law Center, Justice Sikri said that around three crore cases are pending in courts across the country and both executive and judiciary are equally responsible for delay in appointment of judges.

Sikri said, 'There should be a hybrid system. Even more, we have to improve our collegium system because many times in the High Court, the mere perception about a particular person causes obstruction or stalemate. This needs to be corrected. '

The Supreme Court on Friday appointed retired Kerala High Court judge CN Ramachandran Nair to prepare a list of jewelry and valuation reports of Lord Ayyappa of the Sabarimala temple. Various sections of the Pandalam royal family are claiming these jewelry. The Supreme Court said that Nair can take the help of jewelry makers in the work of valuing sacred jewelry and submit their reports in sealed envelopes. A bench of Justices NV Ramana, Ajay Rastogi, and V Ramasubrahmanyam said that we are only concerned about the safety of the sacred jewels.

The apex court requested Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing on behalf of the Kerala government, to use his office to find amicable solutions to the ongoing dispute between various factions of the royal family. The court also asked Venugopal to submit a report on the safety of the ornaments on the next hearing.
