Virat Kohli had to go through a very bad phase in England in 2014. Virat Kohli's performance was so bad that his future in Test cricket was questioned. But Kohli soon made a strong comeback. The Indian cricket team has reached England for a 100-day long tour. In England, Team India is going to play a series of five Test matches in addition to the ICC World Test Championship final. This time Virat Kohli has reached England tour as the most successful captain. In 2014, the tour of England proved to be very bad for Virat Kohli and he could score only 134 runs in 10 innings. But in 2018 he made a great comeback and scored 593 runs in 10 innings at an average of 59.3.

Virat Kohli has captained India in 60 Test matches so far, in which India have won 36. He is the Indian captain to have won the most Test matches. Kohli said in a conversation with the Indian media before leaving for England, "First of all I am four years older. That's the only difference. But other than that I don't think the mindset has changed at all. The mindset is always to go there and be there for my team. Had to perform. I got the chance to lead in 2018 and unlike the kind of acceptance I got from outside, we understand the kind of cricket we played there."

Kohli said that although India lost the 2018 series 1-4, they were never out of the match. He said, "We have never been out of a match except for the Test at Lord's. So, I see it only as an evolution of my position in the team. 2018 was the beginning for us to really go out there and perform away from home . We did it long before Australia (2018-19 series win)."

Coach Ravi Shastri said Kohli has improved since the 2014 tour and has gained in experience. Shastri told the media, "Kohli of 2014 and now slimmer and fitter. He is the captain of the team and the most successful captain of India."
