All of them have been booked under several charges including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy, Mizoram's Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) John Nehlia told news agency. The police lodged an FIR late on Monday night at Vairengte police station in Kolasib district.
Nehlia said that the policemen against whom the case has been registered include Assam Police IG Anurag Agarwal, DIG Devjyoti Mukherjee, Cachar SP Chandrakant Nimbalkar and Dholai police station in-charge Sahab Uddin. Cachar Deputy Commissioner Kirti Jalli and Cachar Divisional Forest Officer Sunnydev Choudhary have also been booked on the same charges.
The border dispute between the two states has been going on for decades. The controversy that erupted this week has taken a new form. Violence broke out in the border areas of these states on Monday, in which six Assam policemen were killed and several others were injured. Both sides have accused each other of inciting violence.
This dispute started between the police and citizens of both the states regarding the removal of encroachments. After this the situation worsened and the attack started with sticks and stones from both the sides. Home Minister Amit Shah recently visited Assam. The violence took place two days after his visit.
