Giving information about this meeting, an MLA said that if Congress appoints a new president, he will accept it.
Congress MLA Randeep Singh Nabha said that in the cabinet meeting the party leaders discussed the Punjab crisis and how to solve it. Nabha said that we were not aware of Sidhu's resignation and do not know why he resigned from the post. If the party chooses a new chief, we will accept it.
In this meeting of the Channi cabinet, cabinet ministers Bharham Mahindra and Razia Sultana, who had tendered their resignation to show 'solidarity towards Sidhu, did not attend the cabinet meeting. Before the meeting, Punjab Minister Raj Kumar Varka had said that the agenda of the day was to take major decisions regarding electricity. Regarding Sidhu's resignation from the post of Punjab Congress chief. Punjab minister Raj Kumar Varka said that Sidhu should stay with Congress and work together. We will resolve the matter in the cabinet meeting today.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister S Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that Sidhu should work closely with the party to strengthen the state government. Navjot Sidhu had resigned from the post of Punjab Congress President on Tuesday. A day after resigning, Sidhu today said he cannot compromise on his morals. And said he will not accept the return of tainted politicians and officials in the state.
Sidhu was appointed as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) on 23 July after months of turmoil in the state Congress unit. After Sidhu's resignation, the process of resignation started. A minister considered close to him and three Congress leaders resigned from their posts. It is a major setback for the Congress high command, which was hoping to resolve the turmoil in Punjab's Congress unit ahead of the assembly elections early next year.
