Punjab: HC Notice to Transport Minister on Akali Leader’s Petition

As the elections in Punjab approach, the matter of bus transport has become hot. On one hand, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused the Congress government of keeping the mafia along. In response to this, CM Charanjit Channi said that he got the AC buses of the Badal family stopped at the police station. However, in the matter of action on buses, now Punjab Transport Minister Amarinder Singh Raja Vading has got a big setback. Punjab and Haryana High Court have issued notice to the minister and sought his reply. This notice has been sent on cancellation of permits of buses of Akali leader.

This petition was filed in the HC by Akali leader and partner of New Deep Bus Service Hardeep Singh Dhillon, in whose hearing Justice Ajay Tiwari and Justice Pankaj Jain ordered. This notice has also been given to the Punjab Government. Advocates Rohit Sood and Amandeep Talwar, the counsel for the Akali leader, submitted that their permits have been illegally canceled. For this, he has cited the order of 12 November of the minister. He has demanded a stay on the implementation of this order. Apart from this, there has also been a demand to release their seized buses immediately.

Government wrongly seized 26 buses

The petition said that they were issued permits for buses by the government in February 2018. He was driving the buses as per the terms of the permit. The buses stopped on 23 March 2020 after the lockdown was imposed due to Corona. Buses later started with only 50% capacity.

After this, the buses stopped again in the second wave. Despite this, 26 of his buses were confiscated on 12 November. He asked for the concession to pay tax in installments and also paid the first installment. Despite this, ministers are taking action on their buses.
