In Dwarka, Homebuyers have been left grieving as there are no signs of the ambitious Dwarka expressway, the construction of which was announced a decade ago. Around 1,30,000 people were promised possession of their properties around the yet-to-be-constructed expressway. The project which was supposed to connect Delhi to Gurugram has seen a delay for the longest time, leaving homebuyers in a frenzy.
National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was responsible for the construction of this expressway but it seems that a dispute over 500 metres of land is causing a delay in the completion of the project. Though concerned government authorities refrained from commenting, a source revealed that the land belongs to influential people and the NHAI is having a tough time in acquiring the same from them.
On the other side, permission from the Forest Department has still not been granted to commence construction in Delhi. The project, which was first announced in 2009, was taken up by the NHAI in 2016. However, the Haryana government has failed to provide the necessary support and sources to the department, leaving the dreams of over one lakh people hanging in the balance.
The aggrieved residents performed a 'maha yagya' on Saturday to ward off all unnecessary obstructions that are causing a delay in the construction of the highway and hoped for speedy possession of their properties. Whether or not the construction of the expressway will lead to the timely handover of possession to homebuyers in Dwarka is yet to be seen.
