Surgeon doctor Harish Kapila of Max Hospital will not be able to practice for the next 30 days. The Delhi Medical Council has removed the registration for 30 days after finding him guilty of medical negligence. During this time, doctors will not be able to treat anyone. Shobha, 46, went to the doctor for hernia surgery. The doctor did not follow treatment protocol during surgery.
The woman was already suffering from TB. Despite this, the doctor ignored it during the surgery. Due to this, the woman got an infection in her stomach. The woman lost her life even after traveling to three more hospitals and spending Rs 18-20 lakh.
A 30-day sentence is enough for a death?
In such a situation, the big question is whether cancellation of registration for 30 days is enough instead of one death? Sangam Vihar resident Ram Babu said that his wife had stomach ache. Max took him to the hospital. There, doctor Harish Kapila told her that she is suffering from hernia after the examination and advised for surgery. Surgery was performed on 7 December 2017 and Shobha was discharged from the hospital three days later.
Race in three hospitals, yet lives
On 13 December, she again started having pain. Shobha is brought to Max. Treatment was done, but Shobha was not fully recovered. Ram Babu said that he later went to Gangaram Hospital with Shobha. Got discharged after treatment there too. Then there was a problem, we took Shobha to Batra Hospital. Shobha was there for several days, but did not survive. Ram Babu said that the doctor at Max Hospital had made a mistake in the surgery. Complained to Delhi Medical Council. After investigation there, the doctor is found guilty.
A copy of the order of DMC. It clearly states that the woman was already suffering from TB and the doctor who performed the surgery ignored it, which is not correct. The committee has said in its order that the doctor did not follow the protocol of treatment, hence his name is being removed from the DMC.
