Far-right populist Geert Wilders is all set to be the Netherlands's first far-right prime minister after his party PVV secured a tremendous number of seats in the Dutch elections held recently.

According to AFP, with almost all votes counted, Geertt Wilders' party was predicted to gain a victory on over 37 seats in the 150-seat lower house of parliament, more than double the 17 the party secured in the last election

According to the BBC, Wilders will now have to convince other parties to unite him in a coalition. His target is 76 seats out of the 150-seat parliament.

Anti-Islam populist leader, Wilder further told the British broadcaster that he was inclined to negotiate and come to terms with other parties to become prime minister.

Is Geert Wilders an anti-Islamic leader?

Born in 1963, Geert Wilders is the originator of the Party for Freedom - the third-largest party in the Netherlands.

He is also referred to as a Dutch version of Donald Trump. This 60-year-old leader has lived under police protection for years due to multiple death threats, which were the result of his strong anti-Islamic views.

  • In 2022, Geert made headlines in India after he took a strong stand for Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nupur Sharma over her controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad. “Appeasement never works. It will only make things ominous. So, my dear friends from India, do not be scared of Islamic countries. Stand up for freedom and be proud and loyal in defending your politician Nupur Sharma who spoke the truth,” he had said.

  • Geert Wilders also helped the Indian government's conclusion to dispose of Articles 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir. Wilders had posted, "India is a whole democracy. Pakistan is a 100% a terror state. So the choice is easy. Welcome home.”

  • In his winning speech, Wilders said he wanted to finish up what he called the “asylum tsunami”, referring to the migration problem that came to monopolize his campaign. “The Dutch will be No. 1 again,” Greet Wilders said. “The people must get their country back.”

  • Wilders also strongly supports the “de-Islamisation” of the Netherlands. He says he wants no Islamic schools or mosques in his country, although he has been easy about Islam during this election campaign than he was in the past.
