During a press conference at the United Nations, Russia's ambassador highlighted their country's special strategic partnership with New Delhi, describing India as an old friend.

The Russian ambassador, Vassily Nebenzia, expressed optimism about enhancing bilateral relations following a potential visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Moscow.

The press conference was held in conjunction with Russia assuming the presidency of the Security Council for the month of July.

Russia Affirms Strong Strategic Partnership with India

Vassily Nebenzia stated, "We have a special strategic partnership with India. India is an old friend of Russia. We cooperate in many areas, and I believe there will be substantive discussions on all these areas of cooperation."

When asked about what he hopes to achieve from this visit, Nebenzia said, "I hope that Russian-Indian relations will further improve."

PM Modi's Brief Russia Trip

It is noteworthy that India and Russia are contemplating PM Modi's brief trip to Moscow next week, featuring extensive discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Modi.

If this trip materializes, it will mark PM Modi's first visit to Russia in nearly 5 years. His last visit to Russia was in 2019 when he participated in an economic summit in the far-eastern city of Vladivostok.

Recently, no confirmation has been provided from India regarding Modi's potential trip to Russia. However, a Kremlin official mentioned last week that preparations are underway for the visit.

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov stated, "I can confirm that we are preparing for the visit of the Prime Minister of India." He added that they cannot announce a date yet, as such announcements are made based on mutual agreement between both parties.
