A Russian plane with 28 people on board has lost contact with air traffic control. According to the reports, the plane has gone missing in the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia's Far East region. The An-26 took off from Kamchatka's main city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to the town of Palana when it disappeared and failed to land as scheduled.

Meanwhile, Valentina Glazova, a spokeswoman for the local transport prosecutor's office said, "Search and rescue efforts are underway. All that is known at this time, what has been possible to establish, is that communication with the plane was interrupted and it did not land."

According to the Russian news agency Tass, at least seven people were killed and four others were injured in the accident. The plane that crashed was a twin-engine L410. According to local reports, the plane crashed after an engine failure. Earlier on May 6, 41 passengers were tragically killed, while 37 people including four crew members were rescued due to a massive fire that broke out during landing on an Aeroflot plane. There were 73 passengers on board at that time. According to Reuters, the plane caught fire shortly after takeoff, after which it made an emergency land.

The survivors of the accident said that the plane caught fire due to a lightning strike. Initial reports of the accident said the plane had landed after a fire, while the Interfax news agency said the plane caught fire after a hard landing. The passengers airlifted and admitted to other hospitals.
