Which is the Most Corrupt Country in the World? Find Out Where India Stands

Transparency International, an organization providing information on the state of corruption in various countries, released its Corruption Report for 180 countries on Tuesday.

According to the report, corruption has increased in India in 2023 compared to 2022.

The organization's report states that India has now ranked 93rd in the Corruption Perception Index for 2023, whereas it was ranked 85th in 2022.

In this ranking of 180 countries, the country ranked number 1 has the least corruption, while the country ranked 180 has the highest corruption.

India's Neighbours and Their Global Standing

Talking about India's neighbouring countries, Bhutan ranks 26th with the least corruption in South Asia. China ranks 76th on this list, experiencing an increase in corruption from 2022 to 2023.

Another neighbouring country of India, Sri Lanka, is placed at 115th, indicating higher corruption levels than India. Nepal ranks 108th, Pakistan 133rd, Bangladesh 149th, and Afghanistan 162nd on the list.

Except for Bhutan and China, most neighbouring countries have higher levels of corruption compared to India.

Denmark Holds the Lowest Corruption Rate Worldwide

When it comes to the least corrupt countries, Denmark ranks first. Following this, Finland is second, New Zealand third, Norway fourth, and Singapore fifth.

Singapore is the only Asian country included in the top 10 of this list. Moreover, talking about the top 20, besides Singapore from Asia, only Hong Kong and Japan are included.

Somalia has the highest corruption in the world and ranks 180th in the list. Apart from Somalia, Venezuela, Syria, South Sudan, Yemen, and North Korea are among the most corrupt countries in the world.
