21 June, i.e. World Music Day, the day was introduced in France in 1982, thanks to the immediate cultural minister, Mr. Jack Low and in fact every other person in France is involved in some form of music, the person either sings or plays an instrument, music either classical or facile, native or foreign.
The music day was officially announced on 21 June 1982, given the extent of the French's craze towards music, and now slowly it is being celebrated all over the world. In France, this music festival is celebrated not only on 21 June, but in many cities it starts from a month before the day and everyday there are new shows, music-releases, CD launching, concerts etc. and from 3 days in advance, not only all the halls but roads are reserved too. On June 21, no one stays in the house in France, every Frenchman comes out on the street to sing some song, play some music, snort or just listen. Children, old people, even the disabled and sick people are not able to control this greed.
On this day all the programs are open for free and even the biggest artists perform on this day without any money, this is the day to make music all accessible. Famous artists also come from abroad and all the auditoriums are packed with spectators, people performing and enjoying music in public gardens, on the banks of rivers, in squares, in churches, in front of famous buildings, under trees, under the open sky. The obsession is such that when there is no place to walk on the streets, people start performing music on the roofs of their homes.
This day is dedicated only to music and this day is a public holiday, only institutions with essential requirements are open such as airports, fire-brigades, police-stations, government hospitals, etc., the whole of France becomes oblivious to the world and gets engaged with the music. French embassies all over the world also organize music festivals in the respective countries.
On this day, the French People sing for self-pleasure only. Every person is found dancing on music and many times it is even seen that in a corner, someone alone is playing an instrument, humming or dancing in their own fun.
