A case has been registered against Bollywood actor and brother of Congress candidate Malvika Sood from Moga seat, Sonu Sood, for violating the model code of conduct on the day of polling in Punjab on Sunday. He is accused of forcibly trying to enter a booth in Moga in violation of the election code of conduct on the day of polling. However, the police had confiscated his car, stopping him from doing so and later sent him back home with his car.
According to media reports, the police have registered a case against actor Sonu Sood for violating the orders of the Additional District Magistrate of Moga concerning the Model Code of Conduct. According to the FIR registered by the Punjab Police, a case was registered against Sood in Moga district on Sunday under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.
Let us inform you that the voting for the Punjab Assembly elections was held on Sunday. The Election Commission barred actor Sonu Sood from going to polling booths in Moga on Sunday. There were allegations of Sood influencing voters, after which the commission took this step. Sood has denied these allegations. Sood's sister is contesting on a Congress ticket from the Moga assembly constituency.
According to the FIR lodged at Moga police station (city), the police had received information that Sood was campaigning for his sister, Malvika Sood in Landeke village of Moga. He was found sitting in a car in the village and by doing so he violated the orders of the Additional District Magistrate. Moga Senior Superintendent of Police Charanjit Singh Sohal said on Monday that Sood should not have been there and hence action has been taken against him.
