Bhil artist Bhuri Bai of Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh has been honored with Padma Shri. Bhuri Bai has been given the Padma Shri for her outstanding work in the field of art. Bhuri Bai has experienced poverty from the beginning and also worked as a child laborer. When she was 10 years old, her house burned down in a fire. After this, his family built a house out of grass and lived there for years. She was a child bride and the post-marriage income was Rs.6 per day.
He brought Bhil art to canvas. She works as an artist in Adivasi Lokkala Academy in Bhopal. The state government has honored him with the Ahilya Award. He learned Pithora art from his father. Now he has received the prestigious Padma Shri for his contribution in preserving this traditional art and taking it to the world stage. From Lucknow to London, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad to the United States, and also the United Kingdom, his paintings have gone far and wide.
The paintings of Bhuri Bai, who once earned Rs 6, have been sold for Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh. She has gone to America for her work, while she never knew how to speak Hindi well. His art has got even international recognition. She also worked as a laborer at Bharat Bhawan in Bhopal. So she tells the media that an artist and poet named Jagadish Swaminathan changed her life. He got them painted and when he asked for money instead, Bhuri said daily rupees, while Swaminathan gave 150 rupees.
His paintings depict animals in the forest, the stillness of the forest and its trees and the gatala (memorial pillars), Bhil deities, costumes, ornaments and tattoos, huts, granaries, haats, festivals, and every aspect of Bhil life including dance and oral stories. has been incorporated.
