Passengers traveling by air will now have to pay more fare. The reason is that the oil companies have increased the prices of Air Turbine Fuel (ATF). Its prices have increased by 30% in the last 6 months.
In the latest case, the price of ATF in Delhi saw an increase of 3.6% on Thursday. Due to this, its price reached Rs 68 thousand 262 per kiloliter. In January, its price was Rs 50 thousand 979. Since then, oil companies have been increasing their prices continuously. Indian Oil Corporation said that it has increased the prices on Thursday. This company is the largest supplier of ATF.
The reason behind the rising ATF prices was that the oil costs are increasing continuously at the global level. That's why oil companies have started raising prices here too. Its prices in Delhi have reached 68 thousand 262 rupees. In Kolkata, it has increased by 3.27% to Rs.72 thousand 295 whereas in Mumbai it has increased by 3.77% to Rs.66,483. In Chennai too, its price is only 66 thousand 483 rupees.
According to the data, the costs of jet fuel may increase further. In January, the price of 50 thousand 979 per kiloliter had fallen to Rs 53 thousand 795 in February. In March, however, it again increased to Rs 59 thousand 400 and in April it reached Rs 58 thousand 374 per kiloliter. In May it increased to Rs 61 thousand 690 while in June it had reached Rs 64 thousand 118.
According to aviation experts, ATF prices play an important role in the Indian aviation industry. Ticket costs are decided on this ATF. If ATF prices remain the same then ticket prices may also go up. Passengers will have to pay for it. The number of passengers at Delhi airport is declining at the moment. This is happening due to the lockdown and travel restrictions.
The number of international passengers in the country was 4500 per day in May, which increased to 7500 in June. However, international flights are still suspended till July 31. Talking about domestic passengers at Delhi Airport, on May, 18 thousand passengers were to come daily. In June, it increased and went beyond 62 thousand. The number of air travelers has decreased since the second wave of Corona. Whereas during February and March, it saw a rise.
