Google has taken action against more than 10 Indian companies for not following its app billing policy. Google said on March 1 (Friday) that action is being taken against those companies who are not choosing the option of compliance with the app billing policy for the extended period.
According to reports, till now Google has removed the apps of companies like Bharat Matrimony, Shaadi.com, Naukri.com, 99-acres.com, Altt, Stage, Aha, Truly Madly, Quack Quack, Kuku FM and FRND from Google Play Store. Has been removed. Google said that these companies had enough time, but still they did not agree to the billing policy, so now action has to be taken.
Google says that these developers had more than three years to prepare. This also includes the three weeks after the Supreme Court order. Despite this the companies did not prepare. Google says that necessary steps are being taken to ensure that its policy applies to the entire ecosystem.
The Supreme Court had on February 9, 2024 refused to pass an interim order to protect internet companies like Bharat Matrimony from being removed from Google's Play Store. The next hearing of this case in the court is on March 19.
After this, more than 30 Indian app developers requested Google to exercise restraint and not remove the apps from Google Play Store till March 19. Because, his petition is to be heard on that day.
In the absence of interim relief from the Supreme Court, some developers have adopted the company's business model and ecosystem, but some have not. In a blog post, Google said that it is always ready to work together with developers.
