Indian Railways got revenue of 360 crores through laborers special trains run by laborers amid Corona virus lockdown. During this time the average rent was Rs 600 per person. Indian Railways gave this information on Monday.

In the midst of a nationwide lockdown, a large number of migrant laborers had to return to their homes. Workers' special trains also played a major role in the return of workers. The average fare for Shramik Special trains was Rs 600 per person. Indian Railways has given this information on Monday.

From May 1, 60 lakh migrant laborers were transported to their homes through Shramik Special trains. Indian Railways received revenue of 360 crores through the train. The transporter operated 4,450 workers special trones, confirmed by Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav.

He said, 'The average fare for Shramik Special trains is Rs 600 per passenger. It has to be kept in mind that these are normal fares of mail, express trains, there are no fares for special trains which are higher. We have transported 60 lakh passengers. Only we have recovered 15 per cent of the cost of operation. 85 percent of the expenditure has been borne by the central government.

Officials say that a total of 75 to 80 lakh rupees have been spent in running Shramik Special trains. VK Yadav said that most migrant laborers have been shifted to their homes; very few laborers are yet to be transported. He said, "We have asked the state governments only on June 3 to express their demands in respect of trains, different states have demanded 171 more labor special trains from us."

He reiterated that the Central and State Governments are bearing the expenses of running these trains in the ratio of 85-15. The Central Government has to bear 85 per cent and the State Governments 15 per cent.

Ticket became a big political issue

The opposition had made a big issue about the fare being charged in labor special trains. Political parties had alleged that Indian Railways was charging fare from laborers in Shramik Special Trains.

Denying the allegations, the central government said that the Railways were only taking 15 percent of the charge to the states, while the state governments were spending 15 percent of the expenditure. He informed that at present there are 230 laborers special trains, most of which do not have a waiting list till June and July.
