Walt-Disney-owned Star India has initiated arbitration proceedings against Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE). The company has filed an application in the London Court of International Arbitration accusing ZEE of violating the terms of the deal for cricket broadcast.
Star India has also demanded damages from Zee Entertainment. Ji gave this information today i.e. Friday (15 March). The company said that no details of the damage have been given by Star in this alleged allegation. Apart from this, the damage cost has also not been determined yet.
Zee has said that it will also file an application in response to Star India's application. Earlier, Zee Entertainment had demanded a refund of Rs 68.54 crore from the broadcaster alleging violation of the terms and conditions.
In August 2022, Zee had entered into an agreement with Star India to sub-license the TV broadcast rights of ICC Men's and Under-19 International matches. Under this, Zee was going to broadcast these cricket events from 2024 to 2027. It is believed that after Zee's deal with Sony Entertainment ended, Zee had also broken the deal with Star.
On January 22, Sony Entertainment broke the merger deal worth $ 10 billion (about Rs 82,887 crore) with Zee. In December 2021, both the companies signed an agreement for TV broadcast. If this merger had happened, Zee + Sony would have become the largest entertainment network in the country with a viewership of more than 24%.
