The months-long wait for the UPI Lite feature, which enables digital payments without entering the internet and PIN, is over. RBI launched UPI123pay a few months back for feature phones without internet. Now the central bank has launched the UPI Lite feature for smartphones. This will also enable smartphone users to make payments without the internet.

Smartphone users can make without the internet but there is a condition

Money can be sent without internet through UPI Lite, but the person to whom the money is being sent must have internet. If there is no internet, the money will go to the recipient immediately. Later whenever that person is online i.e. his internet starts running, he will get money. NPCI is currently working on improving UPI Lite.

·  2,000 rupees can be added in one go in the UPI Lite wallet

·  The maximum transaction limit is Rs 200

·  08 banks are currently using the UPI Lite feature

·  UPI Lite feature has just started for people using the BHIM app only.

UPI Lite will work like this

UPI Lite will enable people to transact without the internet not only during peak time but also during downtime. With this, the maximum amount of payment is Rs 200. This feature is easier and faster than UPI. UPI Lite is like an on-device wallet. In this wallet, users can add funds up to Rs 2,000 in advance and do transactions with that money.

This will benefit only those who will

The UPI Lite feature has just started for people using the BHIM app only. At present, eight banks are supporting the UPI Lite feature. These include SBI, Union Bank, HDFC, Indian Bank, Canara Bank, PNB, Kotak Mahindra, and Utkarsh Bank. It is expected that the facility of the UPI Lite feature can be extended to other UPI apps besides BHIM.
