After Corona, the central government, surrounded by unemployment, is now seen in relief. According to the quarterly employment survey that came on Monday, jobs have increased in the country. The Labor Ministry has conducted these surveys in nine major sectors. Where there were 3.08 crore employment opportunities in which there has been an increase of 29 percent as compared to the last eight years. These sectors had 2.37 crore workers in 2013-14, a growth of 29 percent during the April-June quarter of 2021-22, adding 3.08 crore people were employed in these sectors.
The survey covered nine sectors of manufacturing, construction, trade, transport, education, health, housing and hotels, IT/BPO, and financial services. According to the 2013 Economic Report, these nine sectors accounted for 85 percent of employment. The QES showed a decline in employment in the business and accommodation-hotel sector compared to the 2013 Economic Report. Employment growth was seen in the IT/BPO (152 percent), health (77 percent), education (39 percent), manufacturing (22 percent), transport (68 percent), and construction (42 percent) sectors.
The employment crisis was featured in several surveys in recent months. According to the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), a private research agency, about 59 lakh of the country's then a total of 181 lakh jobs were lost in the four-month lockdown between May and August 2020.
The CMIE survey had a monthly unemployment rate of 11.9 percent in May this year. Of this, unemployment was 14.73 percent in urban areas and 10.63 percent in rural areas. More than 1.5 crore jobs were lost that month. The QES report also found that around 27 percent of the institutions in these nine sectors had laid off employees due to the economic crisis arising out of Covid. However, no job loss figures have been given in this report.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav presented this report on Monday. During the lockdown between March 25 and June 30 last year, 81 percent of the employees got a full salary. It said that 16 percent had received low wages and about 3 percent had not received any money.
The QES report said that education (22 percent), health (8 percent), and IT/BPO (7 percent) accounted for the highest employment at 41 percent in manufacturing. This time the total participation of women workers was 29 percent, which is less than the figure of 2013.
