It is written everywhere in the training area of Danapur Cantonment. The sweat shed in training saves blood on the battlefield. But the history of the battlefield is a witness that the soldiers of the Bihar Regiment have not only shed sweat but also shed every strand of blood for the honour and glory of the country. The latest example is the Galwan Valley.
Exactly a year before today, on the evening of 15 June 2020, the soldiers of the regiment embraced martyrdom after defeating the Chinese soldiers with their indomitable valour. In the battle of Galwan Valley, 20 soldiers of the country were martyred, out of which 11 belonged to the Bihar Regiment.
At present, the status quo on the LAC in Galwan Valley remains intact. Talks are on with the Indian Army and China's PLA (People's Liberation Army). Even after the martyrdom of the comrades in the clash with Chinese soldiers on 15 June 2020, the morale of the Indian soldiers is on the rise. Even in the most difficult conditions, the soldiers keep an eye on the activities of the enemy for 24 hours while patrolling. The officers narrate the heroic saga of their regiment to the soldiers.
What happened on June 15, 2020: Chinese soldiers did not back down on promise, attacked unarmed Indian soldiers
According to the consensus reached in the talks between the senior military officers, it was decided on June 6 last year that the Chinese troops would return to their territory from the Galvan Valley of Ladakh. When the LAC troops did not retreat till June 15, an unarmed patrol led by Colonel Santosh Babu of 16 Bihar Battalion held talks with the Chinese side in the evening.
A fierce skirmish ensued and a scuffle ensued when the Chinese soldiers refused to retreat. During this many Indian soldiers fell in the river. Chinese soldiers suddenly attacked the Indian soldiers in which Colonel Santosh Babu was seriously injured. The Indian soldiers took Colonel Babu and an injured constable from there leaving the rest of the soldiers on the front.
The soldiers who survived on the front wounded many Chinese soldiers in retaliation. A unit of Indian soldiers led by a Major then went to the skirmish site and attacked the Chinese post, killing several Chinese soldiers.
