In cancer patients, the risk of spreading it increases due to the habit of eating peanuts in excess. Researchers from Liverpool University in England have made this claim in their study. Scientists say, a protein named peanut agglutinin (PNA) is found in Peanuts. This protein helps the body release two molecules (IL-6 and MCP-1) that can cause cancer to spread throughout the body.
According to research published in the Journal of Carcinogenesis, after eating peanuts, a protein called peanut agglutinin mixes with the blood and circulates throughout the body. This protein reaches the tumors through the blood and pressurizes them to spread to other parts of the body. This protein causes cancer cells to stick together and try to spread to other parts of the body.
Researcher Lu-Gang Yu from the University of Liverpool says, how much peanuts increase the risk of death in cancer patients, it is not known.
Cancer patients who ate 250 grams of peanuts in a day were seen to have a higher risk. Scientists say, to avoid such dangers, a person should eat only 28 grams of peanuts in a day.
According to researcher Lu-Gang Yu, this is a shocking news, but it is true. If cancer patients eat more peanuts, then their condition can worsen. Cancer patients should avoid eating peanuts frequently or in excess, to reduce the risk.
According to researchers, it is difficult for the body to digest PNA. This protein is up to 0.15 percent of its weight in a Peanut.
