Infosys Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Salil Parekh, who has faced criticism over the problems on the new website of the Income Tax Department, said on Wednesday that the new portal developed by his company is constantly improving. He said that so far 1.9 crore returns have been filed on the new portal.
According to media reports, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh further said that the concerns of the taxpayers are being addressed continuously. Salil Parekh said after the announcement of the company's results for the second quarter that we are seeing continuous improvement in the income tax system. Till Tuesday, we had over 1.9 crore returns, which have been filed using the new system. At the same time, today Income Tax Return Forms 1 to 7 are all working.
Salil Parekh said that most of the statutory forms are available on the system. However, he did not specify when these technical glitches would be completely resolved and all the facilities on the portal would be available to tax return filers. Infosys CEO Salil Parekh also mentioned that 38 million transactions have been completed by the users and two to three lakh returns are being filed every day.
Infosys was given the contract in 2019 to develop the next-generation income tax filing system. However, the motive behind this contract was to reduce the return scrutiny time from 63 days to one day and speed up the refund process.
The new e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department was launched on June 7, 2021. Taxpayers and professionals have reported probelms and difficulties in its functioning since the day the portal was launched. However, to develop it, the well-known company Infosys was given the contract in the year 2019 itself.
