Shivraj Singh's return to power in Madhya Pradesh came at a time when the corona virus infection was rapidly raising his head. The Corona crisis has increased Shivraj Singh's challenges, but Shivraj has long experience of running for power amidst problems. However, it is perhaps in this context that Marco Rubio said that the way his return to power has been done – leadership cannot be judged from the results of one vote or one election. Its actual testing can be done only on the basis of time, that too on the basis of 20 years of work, not 20 days.
At this time, full credit should be given to Chauhan's social engineering for the BJP's re-election to Madhya Pradesh. Political ethics may criticize the tactics adopted by the BJP to gain power in the state, but in the language of 'real politics', Chauhan has set an example of politics emanating from the mixture of Amit Shah and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Bringing Jyotiraditya Scindia into the BJP was not an easy task. In the 2018 elections to Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Shivraj himself gave the slogan of 'Maaf Karo Maharaj'. But as soon as Scindia was disillusioned with the Congress, Chauhan welcomed into the BJP with an open heart. This flexibility says a lot about Shivraj's personality and his politics.
Shivraj was also successful in maintaining the communal harmony of the state. The exact example of this was presented in the communally sensitive where people offered prayers in the 16th century mosque despite heavy opposition from the people of Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and RSS. During his tenure, Chauhan took special care of the minorities of the state. The Chief Minister gave exemptions to minority students and government officials-employees on issues like inclusion of Gita lessons in school syllabus, Surya Namaskar, Food Mantra, Vande Mataram Anthem by the minorities of the state. The Madhya Pradesh Religious Freedom (Amendment) Bill 2013, brought to stop forced conversions, was opposed by the Muslim and Christian communities that it would be abused against both communities, but no such complaint was found after the law was enacted.
