The Central Government has said in the Supreme Court on Wednesday that 250 Indian Corona positives have been found on a pilgrimage in the city of Kom, Iran. All these people are still there, while 500 people have been brought back from Iran.
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court to bring back Shia pilgrims stranded in Corona-affected Iran. The petition states that 850 Shia pilgrims who have gone to Iran on pilgrimage are trapped there, instruct the central government to bring them back.
During the hearing on the petition, the Supreme Court said that it will issue an order to the Central Government in this regard. Justice DY Chandrachud said that we will ask the Center to take a decision soon on the corona positive 250 people. He said that whenever his health condition improves, then we will issue orders in favor of their repatriation, but not now we can say something.
The court said that it will issue an order in favor of the petitioners and ask the Indian government to get the Indians stranded once again tested and find a way out of the possibility of their return.
Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, senior advocate Sanjay Hegde said that not all Indians have been brought back from Iran, about 250 people who turned out to be Corona positive are still there. He told the court that the Central Government should be instructed to bring these 250 people back to India. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that the Indian embassy in Iran is in touch with these people, and they will be brought back as soon as possible.
Sanjay Hegde said that 250 people trapped in Iran don't have money and medicines, they do not have any facilities, so why cannot they be brought back to places like Leh. Hegde said that many Indians are yet to have symptoms of corona, but they have been asked to stay in hotels where they may get corona infection.
