85 Percent of COVID-19 Cases in 10 States: Health Ministry

Most states in the country have seen a decline in active cases of Coronavirus. According to the Union Health Ministry, there are more than 1 lakh active cases in 11 states of the country. There are fewer than 50,000 active coronavirus cases in 17 states of the country. Meanwhile, 10 states account for 85 percent of total COVID-19 cases in India. Twenty-four states have a COVID-19 positivity rate of more than 15 percent.

According to Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health, Lav Agarwal, there is a decrease in active cases in the country. On May 3, the recovery rate was 81.3 percent, after which recovery has improved. Now the recovery rate stands at 83.83 percent. 75 percent of the cases are being reported in 10 states and only 12 states account for total active cases. The active cases have reduced to 36,73,802 and comprise 15.07 percent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 83.83 percent.

Over 3.26 lakh cases reported in India:

India reported 3,26,098 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative count of the cases to 2,43,72,907, the Union Health Ministry reported on Friday. With 3,890 people succumbing to the infection in the last 24 hours, the death toll has mounted to 2,66,207. Currently, there are 36,73,802 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

The country also witnessed as many as 3,53,299 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative recoveries to 2,04,32,898. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as many as 31,30,17,193 samples 4tested for COVID-19 up to May 13. Of these 16,93,093 samples were tested on Friday. The total doses of the COVID-19 vaccine administered stand at over 18,04,57,579 crore, informed the health ministry.
